Happy New Year dear readers! To launch the new year (our third for our little podcast!) we will be participating in One eRead Canada, a national, bilingual digital book club connecting readers to one another and to their libraries.
This year’s pick is Kim Thúy’s celebrated novel, Vi.
- The deep subject of Vi is what Thúy calls “the invisible strength” of women, does this idea resonate with you? How so? Any examples?
- Gastronomy is present throughout the story. What do you think of the use of cooking and food in novels? Any favourites?
- The novel is comprised of short chapters – does this make your reading easier or more difficult?
- The book explores the lives, loves and struggles of Vietnamese refugees as they reinvent themselves in new lands. What risks would you be prepared to take to save your life?
