January Discussion

Happy New Year dear readers! To launch the new year (our third for our little podcast!) we will be participating in One eRead Canada, a national, bilingual digital book club connecting readers to one another and to their libraries.

This year’s pick is Kim Thúy’s celebrated novel, Vi.

  1. The deep subject of Vi is what Thúy calls “the invisible strength” of women, does this idea resonate with you? How so?  Any examples?
  2. Gastronomy is present throughout the story. What do you think of the use of cooking and food in novels? Any favourites?
  3. The novel is comprised of short chapters – does this make your reading easier or more difficult?
  4. The book explores the lives, loves and struggles of Vietnamese refugees as they reinvent themselves in new lands. What risks would you be prepared to take to save your life?

Please let us know what you think – you can share your comments and thoughts here, on social media or by by emailing us at wpl-podcast@winnipeg.ca
