November Discussion: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

This month’s book is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Usually in non-fiction, the author is separate from the work, but in this book the author is a character. How you do feel about authors being part of their stories?

Henrietta Lacks’ tissue was taken without her knowledge and used for research. Would you consent to scientists using your tissue for research?

There are a couple of storylines in this book- one about the Lacks family and one about the Hela cells and their contribution to science. Which did you like more? Was knowing the former crucial to understanding the latter?
